Recently, Baidu released the "2017 / 2018 Baidu Corporate Social responsibility report," which describes Baidu's practice and thinking in fulfilling its social responsibility in the past two years, in which Baidu has achieved remarkable results in energy conservation and environmental protection with leading technologies. According to the report, Baidu has achieved significant energy conservation and emission reduction in building its own buildings, green travel, and building a green data center. By 2018 alone, CO2 emissions have reached 77,999 through the introduction of clean energy.

Energy conservation and emission reduction is not only an urgent task for traditional industries, but also for data centers that support emerging industries such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing. According to statistics, as an important infrastructure of high-tech industry, the global data center accounts for 1.1% of the global electricity consumption and 1.5% of the world's total electricity consumption, resulting in a large number of greenhouse gas emissions, posing enormous challenges to resources and the environment. At present, the energy use efficiency (Power Usage Effectiveness,PUE) of data centers in China is generally high, and there is still a big gap between data centers and data centers in the United States.
 
As a leader in AI and cloud computing in China, Baidu has more than 400 patents for technological innovation at home and abroad in the field of data center, and is a green pioneer and leader in data center in China. It is reported that Baidu data center has been adhering to the concept of green data center, in order to save energy and reduce consumption as the goal, practicing that "the data center is a whole, energy saving starts from the source", and from the software architecture, IT equipment and infrastructure (electrical systems and heating and ventilation systems) innovative application of a number of green energy-saving technologies, and the introduction of AI technology into the data center, intelligent decision-making, intelligent heat dissipation, energy saving and consumption reduction.
 
Baidu's cloud computing data center has a single-module annual PUE of 1.09 in 2018, ranking first in China, according to the just released report on Corporate Social responsibility of Baidu 2018. According to the 2018 data Center Survey published by Uptime Institute, the global data center PUE in 2018 was 1.58. Baidu's performance in data center energy efficiency far exceeds the international average. In September 2018, all four phases of the Yangquan data center were put into production, with an annual reduction of 220 million degrees of power consumption and two hundred and three thousand tons of CO2 emissions. In addition, 100 It also actively introduced clean energy, declared and signed a total of 81 million degrees of clean energy such as wind energy in 2016-2018, reducing CO2 emissions by 77,999 tons in the whole year, equivalent to 1.67 million trees a year's CO2 absorption.

In addition to the data center to achieve energy-saving emissions reduction, Baidu's self-built buildings can be called energy-saving and environmental protection of the enterprise benchmarking measures. It is understood that Baidu self-built buildings are using ice storage technology. In each cooling season, the peak and valley differences of the power grid can be effectively reduced by preparing the cooling volume during the night power load trough period and using the central air conditioning system to supply cooling during the peak period of the daytime electric load, thus reducing the load of the power grid during the peak period of the electricity consumption, and reducing the peak and valley differences of the power grid. To realize "shifting peak and filling valley" of electric power, to improve the load rate of power grid, and to save the actual electric expenditure of enterprises effectively. Through "shifting peaks fill the valley", Baidu can save about 4 million degrees of electricity throughout the year.
 
The Baidu building also realizes the energy-saving effect by recovering the cold and heat in the fresh air system. In the refrigeration season, the cold energy in the fresh air system is recovered, the power consumption of the refrigeration is saved by 180 million degrees, the heat in the fresh air system is recovered in the heating season, the natural gas amount for heating is saved by 150,000 cubic meters, and in addition, a large number of LED energy-saving lamps are adopted in the Baidu office area, compared with the common fluorescent lamp, The annual energy saving is about 5.8 million; the heat exchange area of the Baidu solar heat collector is 1178 square meters, and domestic hot water is provided throughout the year; and the second phase of the Baidu Science and Technology Park has three rainwater collection tanks, and the annual rain water uses about 2400m3.
